Future Technology (FUTECH) Achieves JUFO Level 1 Classification

Future Publishing LLC is pleased to announce an important new milestone for the Future Technology (FUTECH) Journal: FUTECH (https://fupubco.com/futech) has been officially classified as a Level 1 scientific publication channel by the Finnish Publication Forum (JUFO).

This recognition marks another important step in FUTECH’s development and reflects the journal’s continued commitment to rigorous peer review, international editorial participation, high-quality research, and responsible scholarly publishing.

FUTECH (ISSN 2832-0379) was established in 2022 as an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to emerging technologies and interdisciplinary scientific research. Since its launch, the journal has continued to grow with support from researchers, editors, reviewers, authors, and readers worldwide.

What Does JUFO Level 1 Mean?

The Finnish Publication Forum, commonly known as JUFO, is a Finnish system for evaluating and classifying academic publication channels. It operates under the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and evaluates scientific journals, book series, conferences, and academic publishers.

JUFO uses a three-level classification system. Level 1 is the basic recognized level for academic publication channels, while Level 2 is reserved for a more limited group of leading publication channels. The evaluation is conducted by discipline-specific expert panels consisting of Finnish and Finland-based scholars.

Importantly, JUFO Level 1 is not simply a database listing. The classification considers whether a publication channel meets established academic criteria. These include having a registered ISSN, a transparent editorial and peer-review process, a scientific focus, an expert editorial board, external peer review, an international or national scholarly community, and appropriate scholarly quality practices.

For FUTECH, the new JUFO record identifies the journal as:

  • Journal: Future Technology
  • Abbreviation: FUTECH
  • JUFO ID: 91062
  • JUFO Level: 1
  • ISSN: 2832-0379
  • Type: Journals and series – Scientific
  • Publisher: Future Publishing
  • Country: United States
  • Start year: 2022
  • Status: Active (Link: https://jfp.csc.fi/jufoportaali?Jufo_ID=91062)

The classification therefore provides an independent recognition that FUTECH meets the criteria expected of a scientific publication channel.

An Important Milestone

Since its establishment in 2022, FUTECH has been developed with a long-term vision: to create an international platform where researchers can communicate emerging technological developments across disciplinary boundaries.

Today, the journal covers a broad range of areas, including artificial intelligence and computer science, financial technologies, quantum technologies, materials science, environmental technologies, biotechnology, biomedical technologies, physical sciences, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, medical technologies, and industrial engineering.

The journal’s multidisciplinary character is intentional. Many of today’s most important technological challenges do not belong to a single discipline. Artificial intelligence intersects with engineering and medicine; advanced materials support energy and aerospace technologies; quantum technologies increasingly connect physics, computing, and communications; and sustainable technologies require contributions from engineers, scientists, computer scientists, and environmental researchers. FUTECH was created to provide a place to explore these connections through high-quality scientific research.

FUTECH and Scopus

The JUFO Level 1 classification is also an important addition to FUTECH’s existing scholarly profile.

FUTECH is Scopus-indexed and currently positioned in the Q3 quartile, adding an established international citation and abstracting platform to the journal’s profile. Scopus uses an independent selection process through its Content Selection and Advisory Board, while CiteScore and related metrics are based on citation data within the Scopus database.

For researchers, it is important to understand that JUFO and Scopus serve different purposes.

Scopus is a large international abstract and citation database that provides bibliographic coverage and citation metrics for scholarly publications. JUFO, on the other hand, is a classification system for academic publication channels used within the Finnish research assessment environment. Thus, the two forms of recognition should not be considered interchangeable.

Rather, they provide complementary forms of recognition.

The combination of Scopus indexing, Q3 positioning, and JUFO Level 1 classification represents meaningful progress for FUTECH and provides authors with additional information when evaluating the journal as a potential publication venue.

Recognition of the Work Behind the Journal

A journal’s development is never the work of a single person or organization.

Behind every published article are authors who invest months or years in conducting research, reviewers who contribute their expertise and time, editors who evaluate manuscripts and make difficult decisions, and readers who engage with and cite the published work.

The JUFO Level 1 recognition therefore also recognizes this broader scholarly community.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all members of the FUTECH Editorial Board for their continued service, expertise, and commitment to maintaining the scientific standards of the journal.

We are equally grateful to our reviewers, whose careful evaluations are essential to the peer-review process. High-quality peer review is a foundation of a credible scientific journal, and reviewers often contribute quietly and without public recognition. Their work is deeply appreciated.

Most importantly, we thank our authors for trusting FUTECH with their research. Every article published in the journal contributes to its scientific identity and helps build a stronger international research community.

We also thank our readers. A journal’s impact ultimately depends not only on what it publishes but also on whether researchers read, discuss, use, build upon, and cite the work it publishes.

Continuing the Journey

While the JUFO Level 1 classification is an achievement worth celebrating, it is not the destination.

For FUTECH, recognition brings greater responsibility.

As the journal continues to grow, we remain committed to maintaining a rigorous peer-review process, improving editorial practices, expanding our international network, increasing the visibility of published research, and providing authors with a professional and transparent publishing experience.

Our goal is not simply to publish more papers. Our goal is to publish better research.

We believe that the long-term reputation of a journal is built article by article, reviewer by reviewer, editor by editor, and author by author.

The future of technology depends on researchers who are willing to explore new ideas, challenge existing approaches, develop innovative solutions, and share their findings with the global scientific community. FUTECH aims to be part of that process.

Call for High-Quality Research

We invite researchers, scientists, engineers, and technology professionals from around the world to submit their high-quality original research, review articles, and short communications to Future Technology.

We particularly welcome innovative research addressing emerging technological challenges and interdisciplinary topics across the journal’s broad scope.

Looking Toward the Future

Achieving JUFO Level 1 classification (JUFO ID 91062) marks an important moment in the continued development of Future Technology.

From a journal established in 2022 to an internationally visible, Scopus-indexed publication with Q3 positioning and now an officially recognized JUFO Level 1 scientific publication channel, FUTECH has continued to build its identity around a simple principle:

Scientific publishing should help researchers advance technology.

We are grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey so far, and we look forward to welcoming new authors, reviewers, editors, and readers to the FUTECH community.

Thank you to our Editorial Board, reviewers, authors, and readers for your continued trust and support.
