Solar panel recycling is a critical but underdeveloped component of the renewable energy transition. With millions of panels set to reach end-of-life in the coming decades, the global community must act swiftly to establish robust recycling systems. The current 25–30 year lifespan of solar panels offers a window of opportunity to develop infrastructure, refine technologies, and educate stakeholders. Without proper recycling, solar panels risk becoming an environmental liability rather than an asset. However, with the right strategies in place, they can serve as a model for circular economy practices in clean energy—turning waste into resources, reducing environmental impact, and supporting a resilient and sustainable energy future.
